This atomic testing markeked the start of the nuclear age. (2) After spring 1945, with Japan Ashgan in an extremely weak position, the United States was considering the following ways of bringing the long war to an end: invade the Japanese mainland in November 1945, ask the Soviet Union to join the war against Japan, assure their Emperor system continued, or use the atomic bomb; the U.S. believed that the atomic bomb could end the war for good. Japan, did not give up so easily and the fact that Germany had already done so did not make a difference to Japan in any way.
