(1)When humans burn fossil fuels in factories, nitric acid and sulfur oxide which are air pollutants, are released into the atmosphere. Once in the atmosphere, the air pollutants combine with oxygen, water, and other substances floating around to form harmful, airborne acids called acid rain. Once acid rain is in the air, it moves throughout the earth, damaging natural environments such as bodies of water which then threaten aquatic ecosystem. (2)Even though acid rain has the word rain in it, this pollutant can come in any form of precipitation such as snow, fog, or rain. Whatever form acid rain takes, it moves throughout the ecosystem, polluting forests, soil, oceans, lakes, and streams. For example, when acid rain is carried into bodies of water, the water becomes more acidic. High acidic water is bad for sea animals. Animals that have sells have a likely chance of dying because they rely on lower acidic levels to form their shells. Without lower acidic levels in the water, their shells become thinner and thinner.
